About YPPD

The overarching goal of YPPD is to contribute to the endeavors of supporting youth development, peaceful conflict resolution, stability, sustainable development, peace and democracy in Sierra Leone. It works to increase the capacity of vulnerable groups through training, partnership, advocacy, enhancing the youth knowledge base and equipping them with livelihood skills. It is a platform for diverse kinds of actions committed to engaging key stakeholders at various levels of development across the country.YPPD’s work is inspired by the daily struggles of our communities and the enormous opportunity that exists in collaboratively working with others in the search for sustainable solutions.

Our Achievements

Since its inception, the organization has over the years achieved the following but not limited to:

  • In February 2020 to August 2022, YPPD and its partner, Cordaid undertook a resourceful partnership to implement the UN Peacebuilding Fund project on Inclusive Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding. The project supported 23 youth-led CBO/CSOs with sub-grants that enables them to catalyze local peacebuilding and conflict prevention projects in their respective districts in over 60 communities. Leading and spearheading the formation of a national civil society advocacy Network on water and sanitation; managing well over 97 member institutions since 2010.
  • The organization is also a country Partner for the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn Child Health in rolling out the Adolescents and Youth Toolkit 2.0 in Sierra Leone.
  • The institution has also influenced key national development and budget-setting processes aiming at separating the Ministry of Youth Affairs from Sports. These yielded dividends using our budget advocacy approach as compelling evidence for action.
  • The institution has well over 150 school clubs all doing peacebuilding and conflict mitigation (peer education), non-violence through sports, and sexual and reproductive health engagements, among others.
  • Resilience is worth celebrating as one of the post-conflict youth-serving agencies that has since weathered the storm to not only serve as a think tank but most importantly building the capacities of young people and their institutions.
  • Through our sustainable youth livelihood and empowerment program, YPPD has graduated well over 500 beneficiaries since 2009 when the project was funded by UN-
  • In late 2019, the institution now has a regional office in Southern Sierra Leone to cover its programs as well as projects seeking to empower and ignite change through youth.
  • Being the convener for the launch of the United Nations Security Council Resolution on Youth Peace and Security (UNSCR2250) in Sierra Leone through partnership with UNDP, Cordaid, United Network of Young Peacebuilders, Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding among others.

Operating in 8 DistrictS

The current programs of the institution operates in four districts: Bombali, Kenema, Moyamba, Kailahun, Bo Western Rural and Urban and Pujehun respectively.

Launched the UN Security Council Resolution 2250 in Sierra Leone - March 2017

For the first time since the Resolution was adopted in December of 2015, YPPD through funding from the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding was able to launch UNSCR2250 at the national level.

Reached 500 youth with liveligood skills

As one of the post-conflict youth agencies, through partnership with UN-HABITAT we have been able to reach young people with diverse skills that will improve economic outcomes for them and their families

Founded and hosts the National CSO Network on Water and Sanitation since 2010

Partner of the institution's qualition building drive and desire to deepening advocacy in the WASH sector, WASH-Net was established in 2010 to provide that opportunity for wider state and non-state actors engagement.
